Mamuto is a 21-acre farm in Kirinyaga, Kenya, beneath Mt. Kenya's slopes, where the late Walter Mathagu pioneered small-farmer quality coffee before his sons now continue his legacy. The coffee is washed and processed entirely on-farm, then rested six weeks in aerated bins before milling—a meticulous approach that honors terroir. SL-28 variety delivers lush dark fruit notes, full body, and complexity comparable to fine wine. This is a coffee George Howell has sourced continuously since 2006, one that consistently demonstrates why Kenya's volcanic soils and altitude produce some of specialty coffee's most compelling cups.
